The official trailer for the live-action "" movie is out now, giving a first look at Jim Carrey as Sonic's nemesis, Dr. Robotnik.
Voiced by Ben Schwartz, the iconic video game character Sonic is seen stretching in the middle of the road (like a human being) before launching into a supersonic-speed run.
"Gotta go fast," he says.
Meanwhile, Carrey goes full-on Carrey with a scene where he interrupts and yells at an Army officer several times.
At the end of the trailer, Dr. Ivo Robotnik has a more familiar look to fans of the franchise, bald and wearing a red jacket as he puts on his goggles.
And we see James Marsden's character, a Green Hills sheriff named Tom Wachowski. Tom stumbles across Sonic but they get off on the wrong foot, as the sheriff shoots him with a tranquilizer gun.
"Basically, it looks like I'm going to have to save your planet," Sonic later says, as the duo are pursued by unknown attackers.
"Sonic the Hedgehog" follows the blue hedgehog as he and Tom join forces to stop Dr. Robotnik from using Sonic's powers for world domination.
Executive producer Tim Miller previously defended Sonic's appearance in the movie, saying that his look was adapted for the "real world."
"It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing. It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different," he said. "It's part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature."
"Sonic the Hedgehog" will be released Nov. 8, 2019.
