Investigations ongoing into fire that led to FAO Daryl Gordon's death
Fire department mourning loss of 29-year firefighter
State and local authorities in Ohio are investigating the cause of a blaze that led to the death of veteran Cincinnati firefighter Daryl Gordon.
Fire Chief Richard Braun said department policies and procedures will be reviewed to try to learn from the death.
Braun said the department is mourning the loss of 29-year firefighter Gordon and called him a hero.

The fire chief said Gordon, 54, fell down an elevator shaft at the King Towers Apartments Thursday morning while looking for people to rescue from the fire.
Fire Apparatus Operator Gordon was extricated from the building, but was later pronounced dead at UC Medical Center.
Braun said there are three ongoing investigations. A general fire investigation to determine what caused the fire; an investigation by the fire department's human resources department and an investigation by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Braun said the investigations could take more than a year to complete. The cause will likely be determined first.

The elevator door will be a key aspect of the investigations, but there will also be a strong focus on procedures that will include interviews with all of the fire personnel who were there, according to Braun.

The chief does not know if Gordon was acquainted with the interior of the King Towers building from any previous run, only that most of the firefighters who responded to the four-alarm were probably there for the first time. Some stopped by the State Avenue Church of God since the fire. Chaplains have kept an open door.

Gordon's colleagues hung black bunting above the doors of his firehouse Friday morning. The chief reflected the grief of the entire department after visiting Gordon's family last night.
The sense of loss inside Engine 14 was palpable. Pictures of Gordon grace the kitchen area where his out-sized personality is remembered fondly.

There is much to do between now and the middle of next week when the funeral is planned. Firefighters, high school students and volunteers were landscaping the fire memorial grounds this morning.
Calls were being made to coordinate the honor guard and the various aspects of the funeral ceremony. Gordon leaves behind his wife, Angela, and two daughters, Angelique and Chelsea.
Condolences and offers of support have arrived from departments across the country.

He expressed gratitude to the community for the many expressions of support. Mayor John Cranley requested all flags be flown at half-staff through Wednesday to honor Gordon바카라 게임 웹사이트s life.
Two other firefighters were treated for injuries and released.
All residents escaped or were rescued, some using a ladder truck. A few were treated for minor smoke inhalation or other minor injuries.
A 3-month-old boy was transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and admitted after he and his mother were rescued from the fifth floor of the building.

Firefighters continued to return to the King Towers Friday to share what they knew about Thursday's events. Firefighters said that is how they preferred to handle things.
The last Cincinnati firefighter to die in a fire was Oscar Armstrong. Armstrong was killed on March 21, 2003 in a Bond Hill fire. He was the first firefighter to die on the job in 22 years.
Plans for Gordon's funeral have not yet been finalized.
A memorial fund has been established at Kemba Credit Union for Gordon. The donations will benefit Gordon's family. Donations can also be sent to the at 1011 West 8th Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45203.
