Police: Father of man shot by Cincinnati police was driving car that hit, killed deputy
A Hamilton County sheriff바카라 게임 웹사이트s deputy has died after being hit by a car while directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati's campus on Friday.
It happened around 1 p.m. along Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods Drive, where the university was busy all day with graduation commencements.
Cincinnati police said a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy was directing traffic at the intersection when he was hit by a vehicle driving at high speeds along Burnet Woods Drive.
The deputy was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died. On Sunday, he was identified as Larry Henderson, a 33-year veteran of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
According to Cincinnati police, the father of the 18-year-old who was shot and killed by Cincinnati police on Thursday was driving the car that hit and killed Henderson.
Police identified the driver as Rodney Hinton Jr., 38. He was charged with aggravated murder in Henderson's death.
Hinton made his first court appearance Saturday on the aggravated murder charge. The courtroom was filled with Hamilton County sheriff's deputies who came out to show support for Henderson.
As the hearing got underway, Hinton's attorney admitted it's a terrible charge, and said Hinton has no prior felonies. He also said that it's a difficult and emotional time for his client, bringing up the fact that Hinton's son, Ryan Hinton, was shot and killed by a CPD officer the day before. Because of this, Hinton's attorney asked the judge for the ability for his client to make bond during his trial.
Meanwhile, prosecution in court said evidence will ultimately show that Hinton Jr. stopped and redirected his car in a premeditated fashion to drive into deputy. Prosecutors said that due to the serious nature of these charges, Hinton should not have the inability to leave jail as his trial proceeds.
Ultimately, Judge Tyrone Yates set no bond for Hinton in the interim until court reconvenes on Tuesday for a more in-depth hearing on the matter. As Hinton's trial proceeds, he will be housed outside of Hamilton County in the Clermont County Jail for his own safety. The next hearing is set for 9 a.m.
Officials said Henderson just retired from the department last December and was working a special detail for the commencement ceremonies.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine shared a statement on Friday in the immediate hours after the crash, writing, "Fran and I are saddened to learn about the Hamilton County deputy hit by a vehicle and killed in the line of duty today. I have been briefed on the ongoing investigation and am sickened by what appears to be an intentional act of violence. We offer our sincere condolences to the deputy바카라 게임 웹사이트s family, friends, and colleagues."
DeWine later ordered that flags across the state of Ohio remain at half-staff until Henderson's funeral is held.
Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said on Sunday that plans for Henderson's funeral will be publicly announced in the coming days.
