Man accused of hitting, killing Hamilton County deputy with car appears in court
A Hamilton County sheriff바카라 게임 웹사이트s deputy was killed after being hit by a car while directing traffic near University of Cincinnati's campus on Friday.
It happened around 1 p.m. along Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods Drive near UC's campus, where the university was busy all day with graduation commencements.
Cincinnati police said the Hamilton County sheriff's deputy was outside of his vehicle, directing traffic at the intersection when he was hit by a vehicle entering the intersection.
The deputy was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. He has not yet been publicly identified by officials.
According to Cincinnati police, the father of the 18-year-old who was shot and killed by Cincinnati police on Thursday was driving the car that hit the deputy.
Police identified the driver as Rodney Hinton Jr., 38. He has been charged with aggravated murder in the deputy's death.
Hinton was arraigned in court Saturday on the aggravated murder charge. The courtroom was filled with Hamilton County sheriff's deputies who came to show solidarity with the deputy who had been killed.
Hinton's attorney said his client understands it's a very serious charge, and that he has no prior felonies. The attorney also said that he understands it's an "emotionally charged" circumstance, bringing up the fact that Hinton's son, Ryan Hinton, was shot and killed by a Cincinnati police officer the day before.
Prosecutors in court said evidence and witness testimony will ultimately show Hinton Jr. stopped the car in the street to intentionally redirect it and drive into the deputy "in an attempt to kill him."
Prosecutors asked for a no bond hearing. Meanwhile, Hinton's attorney asked for a continuance for a no bond hearing. Ultimately, Judge Tyrone Yates set no bond for Hinton until Tuesday, where they will reconvene on the matter. Hinton Jr. will be housed in Clermont County on judge's orders during the duration of his trial for his safety. The next hearing is set for Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Officials said the deputy who was killed just retired from the department last December and was working a special detail for the commencement ceremonies.
Officials from across Cincinnati and the state of Ohio have since offered their condolences to the family of the man who was killed, as well as all those who knew and worked with him.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine was among those who offered condolences on Friday, saying "Fran and I are saddened to learn about the Hamilton County deputy hit by a vehicle and killed in the line of duty today. I have been briefed on the ongoing investigation and am sickened by what appears to be an intentional act of violence.
