Utilities, group combine to pay for weather siren in Piner
EF-4 tornado hit Piner on March 2

Two area companies and a service group are helping to pay for a storm siren to be installed in a southern Kenton County community that was struck by a tornado in March.
The Rotary Club of Kenton County, Duke Energy and Owen Electric Cooperative pledged funds this month to help cover the nearly $25,000 for an outdoor warning siren.
The Kentucky Enquirer reported that Steve Hensley, director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management in Kenton County, said the siren was a need identified by residents because it's an agricultural area where people work outside.
Kenton County currently has 34 warning sirens and this one will be installed in the Piner Fire District, said Kenton County Judge-executive Steve Arlinghaus.
Piner was struck by the EF-4 tornado that killed four people and injured eight on March 2, one of only two EF-4 tornadoes of the 70 that were spawned by the storm system.
