For families of children with special needs, a trip to the movies can be difficult. Children on the autism spectrum can have stressful reactions to the darkness of the theater, or the volume of the movie. But that doesn't mean they should have to miss out on the fun. For this reason, Regal Cinemas is offering special sensory-friendly screenings of popular children's movies, including the much-anticipated Incredibles 2. These "My Way Matinee" showings will offer an adaptive movie-going experience, with lowered sound and brighter lights. Additionally, kids will be able to able to dance, sing, and shout along with the characters in the films at these screenings. "Sometimes in the movies, everyone likes you to be quiet and to sit there, and for some families that may not be the way their children or their families experience movies," Sandra Heinig, director of public relations for Regal Cinemas told ABC. "You don't have to sit still, and hopefully that makes it fun for everyone who comes to the movies."Some of the upcoming screenings include Sherlock Gnomes (March 24), Duck Duck Goose (April 21), Show Dogs (May 19), and of course, Incredibles 2 (June 16). These monthly matinee shows will take place at 10:30 a.m. at participating theaters and tickets will be only $6.50. Better yet, the "My Way Matinee" program recently expanded to include more theaters around the country. You can check here to see if there's one in your area.
