The 1100 block of Brownberry Dr. in Wilmington was covered by a blanket of sadness on Tuesday night.
"You could feel it. It, like, laid in the air thick, to me," said Patricia Ross.
Ross, who asked 바카라게임 to not show her face on camera, said neighbors can't believe that Kelley Blazer was shot to death in her second-floor apartment.
"Kelley's been nice to me since the first day I met her," Ross said. "All of the children out here call her Mamaw. I think it's Mamaw. They call her something like being like their grandmother."
Wilmington police said the 55-year-old Blazer was shot and killed by her son, Kyler Whitt.
Investigators said the 33-year-old Whitt called 911 a little before 8 p.m. Tuesday to say he'd shot a woman - and later admitted he used a shotgun to kill Blazer. Detectives found a Citadel 12-gauge shotgun near Blazer's body.
"She's a real good person. I just don't understand why," Adam Taylor said.
Taylor, who lives near the shooting scene, said he heard a loud bang and then saw Whitt surrounded by officers.
"I seen him over there on his hands and knees and officers pulling in," Taylor said.
Taylor was stunned, especially since he and Whitt were working on their golf swings earlier this week.
"I was playing over here in the field over here, just hitting golf balls with him," Taylor said.
Whitt was arraigned on Wednesday. He pleaded not guilty.
Clinton Co. Municipal Judge David Henry set bond at $1.5 million and asked Whitt if he had an attorney.
"Can I have a court-ordered (inaudible)? My mother, I don바카라 게임 웹사이트t know what (inaudible) she바카라 게임 웹사이트s going under now, uh - my father 바카라 게임 웹사이트 but I do know that they바카라 게임 웹사이트re in witness protection," Whitt told Henry. "They were placed in witness protection in 2016."
Henry said he'd check on Whitt's witness protection claim.
Before the hearing ended, Whitt blurted out that Blazer tried to shoot him, suggesting he may pursue a self-defense argument.
