Federal judges consider Trump administration's funding freezes
Federal judges are deliberating on the Trump administration's funding freezes, which impacts billions of dollars allocated to medical research, clean energy, small businesses and nonprofits.
"It's been really hard 바카라 게임 웹사이트 we've had to lay off 55 people," said Krish O'Mara Vignarajah, Global Refuge president and CEO.
"The funding is still frozen, and that leaves my company, READYBAR, in limbo," said Ryan Dowdy, READYBAR founder and CEO.
President Donald Trump has defended the administration's actions.
"We are merely looking at parts of the big bureaucracy where there has been tremendous waste, fraud, and abuse," Trump said.
Despite claims that the funding freeze has been lifted, states argue that the funds remain blocked, disrupting programs nationwide.
"We haven't received a dime in the last month. This is for work we completed in December 2024," Vignarajah said.
Sen. Roger Marshall, a Kansas Republican, responded to concerns from farmers.
"I was just with a lot of farmers all day Monday and part of yesterday (Tuesday) with Secretary of Agriculture Brook Rollins, and no one told me that. I didn't hear that from one of them," Marshall said.
However, farmers have expressed their struggles on social media.
"Farms are going to sink if we don't get those funds unfrozen," said Skylar Holden of Cattlemen Family Farms.
The USDA recently announced it will release about $20 million in paused farm aid from the Inflation Reduction Act after being reviewed by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.
Additionally, a federal judge cleared the way for the Trump administration to pull thousands of U.S. Agency for International Development staffers off the job.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols removed his temporary block on the effort to remove all but a small fraction of USAID staffers from their posts and give those abroad a 30-day deadline to move back to the U.S. at government expense. His ruling comes in a lawsuit filed by unions on behalf of workers, who say the rush to dismantle the agency had cut off some staffers overseas from emergency communications systems. Judge Nichols found that the unions바카라 게임 웹사이트 challenge must be handled under federal employment laws rather than in district court.
