Man shot himself in head before Cybertruck exploded outside Trump's Las Vegas hotel, officials say
We just had our New Year's Eve event where we successfully protected the city where over 400,000 people were here last night, and that changed this morning at about 8:40 when *** 2024 Tesla Cyber truck pulled into the area. *** valet of the Trump International Hotel leading the investigation into the deadly New Year's Day cybertruck explosion that left the driver of the vehicle dead and 7 others injured is Las Vegas Metro Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill and Las Vegas FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge Jeremy Schwartz. I am not going to confirm any names to you as I sit here today. Because I cannot do that with 100% certainty of who the individual is as of right now, our number one goal is to ensure that we have the proper identification of the subject involved in this incident. Following that, our second objective is to determine whether this was an act of terrorism or not. I know everybody's interested in that word and trying to see if we can say, hey, this is *** terrorist attack. That is our goal and that's what we're trying to do. While still waiting on that identification, preliminary reports of the investigation have revealed that the cyber truck was rented out of Colorado through Toro, *** car rental app that allows users to rent vehicles from trusted hosts across the country. We're able to trace that truck through the Tesla charging stations, and it arrived here in Las Vegas this morning at about 7:30. And went up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before immediately pulling into the Trump Towers. Now Sheriff McMahill says surveillance from the scene shows that the driver had been parked for about 15 to 20 seconds before the truck went up in flames. So the individual that was in that truck is obviously deceased. Now police say 7 others were also injured from the blast and were taken to *** local hospital to be treated for minor injuries after using *** tarp to extinguish the rest of that fire. Investigators found what they say could have caused the cybertruck. To detonate. So those are gasoline canisters. They are camp fuel canisters and large firework mortars. And as the investigation continues, law enforcement officials say they believe that the incident was isolated. There is no further threat to the community as I sit here today. I just want to make sure that our community understands we do not believe that there is *** bunch of folks out there supporting this or helping this, and we don't believe that there's any other danger to the community right now.

The highly decorated Army soldier inside a Tesla Cybertruck packed with fireworks that exploded outside Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas shot himself in the head just before detonation, authorities said Thursday. The explosion caused minor injuries to seven people but virtually no damage to the hotel. Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said Matthew Livelsberger, a 37-year-old Green Beret, likely planned a more damaging attack but the steel-sided vehicle absorbed much of the force from the crudely built explosive.Damage from the blast was mostly limited to the interior of the truck because the explosion "vented out and up" and didn't hit the Trump hotel doors just a few feet away, the sheriff said."The level of sophistication is not what we would expect from an individual with this type of military experience," said Kenny Cooper, a special agent in charge for the the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.Authorities are still working to determine a motive."It's not lost on us that it's in front of the Trump building, that it's a Tesla vehicle, but we don't have information at this point that definitively tells us or suggests it was because of this particular ideology," said Spencer Evans, the Las Vegas FBI's special agent in charge.Livelsberger had recently returned from an overseas assignment in Germany and was on approved leave when he died, according to a U.S. official.A law enforcement official said investigators learned through interviews that he may have gotten into a fight with his wife about relationship issues shortly before he rented the Tesla and bought the guns. That crash was being investigated as a terrorist attack.
