'She can overcome anything': Teen diagnosed with cancer after surviving rare disease
A teenager from Soldier, Iowa, is fighting a new health battle through music and positivity. In January, 16-year-old Katie Hoskins was diagnosed with cancer after recovering from a lung transplant in 2022.

Vera Hoskins can't help but get emotional every time she hears her daughter do what she loves the most.
"I just want her to be able to play her music, I want her to be a kid," Hoskins said.
But in the past few years, that hasn't been the easiest for her.
"She was in and out of doctor's offices and the ER trying to figure out what was going on," Vera said.
Katie spent more than a year recovering from her lung transplant, only to find out she had a new health challenge ahead.
"This doctor said, 'When you get back home, tell them you need a PET scan. I think we could be dealing with cancer. And so to hear that was good and bad, because we needed an answer, we needed an answer and a cure," Vera said. Katie has undergone two rounds of chemo.
"Nothing tastes right for her. It makes a lot of things no fun," Vera said.
Despite the setbacks, Katie's happy-go-lucky energy cannot be stopped. But on the inside, staying positive is not always so easy.
"When people ask how you're doing, what are you supposed to say to that when you're not doing OK when you're not doing fine?" Katie said.
Now, Katie is using her passion for music to express her ups and downs through songwriting.
"I feel like so many people go through that. They don't know what to say. They feel like they have to say they're OK, but they're not," she said.
Katie wrote two songs called "The Life I Have" and "I remember" after her cancer diagnosis. You can listen to and download those songs .
Her lyrics are a new way to combat another battle that she and her family are ready to fight.
"You almost want to go 'OK, bring it on. What do you got next? Bring it on.' Because, man, if we can overcome both of these things, she can overcome anything," Vera told sister station KETV.
