By painting a pumpkin outside of her home teal, she marked her home safe for all who walked by and had food allergies. So, when the trick-or-treaters arrived, she offered nonfood items instead of the go-to candy in order to eliminate the risk of allergic reactions.
Come Halloween 2014, heard of the idea and loved it so much they launched it into an international campaign to "provide an alternative for kids with food allergies, as well as other children for whom candy is not an option."
