Shoppers in 12 different areas across the United States may be missing out on their local Target starting early next year. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Target is closing 12 stores in eight different states across the country.Target said the closings are part of a normal process of figuring out which stores work and which ones don't; they will have opened 32 new stores by the end of 2017. The company is focusing on opening smaller stores in bigger suburbs or cities, and has plans to open 35 stores in 2018. "This decision was not made lightly," Target spokeswoman Erin Conroy told USA Today. "We have a rigorous process in place to evaluate the performance of every store on an annual basis, closing or relocating underperforming locations as needed."But that still doesn't make it better for shoppers in smaller rural areas. In Hutchinson, Kansas, people are reportedly planning to hold a candlelit vigil in the parking lot the night before their local Target shuts for good. The event is "bring your own candles," or "BYOC," so perhaps candles will be some of the final sales at that Target. If your local store is closing, don't freak out about holiday shopping. They will stay open until February 3, so there will be plenty of time for Black Friday deals — and then clearance sales. Here's the full list of closing stores, as reported by Business Insider.
