'Super rewarding': Lifelong friends help others find vaccine appointments in their spare time
Lifelong friends Megan Marshall and Kristen Nelson realized early on that the vaccination rollout could be difficult to navigate.
"We knew when our parents were searching that they just could not navigate the site," said Nelson.
The tech-savy duo did their own research and found local clinics in the Sterling, Massachusetts, area with appointments available. Word about their helpful skill quickly spread.
"It started with us helping our parents and then their friends and then their friend's friends," Nelson explained.
"I started scrolling through my phone and thinking of everyone in that (eligible) age group, parents of my friends from childhood," said Marshall.
In 10 days, they've helped 125 people get the vaccine and many more are on their list.
When they're not working, the women are helping to book appointments.
"We find the time early morning, late at night and all weekend," said Marshall. "Those appointments are there so you have to just refresh - keep going in and out and in and out of that day and that clinic and they pop up."
The women say they'll keep helping as long as there's a need.
"It's been super rewarding. We're so happy to finally have a role to play," said Marshall.
