Scientists have identified a mutated strain of the coronavirus that's more contagious than the original strain that's linked to Wuhan, China. The new strain took hold in Europe and has since become the dominant source of coronavirus infection across the world.A study, which has not yet been peer reviewed, appeared Thursday on BioRxiv, a site meant to speed up the collaboration process between scientists and researchers working to find COVID vaccines and treatments. The study's organizers shared it to the site because they felt an "urgent need for an early warning" for scientists working on such medical efforts to fight the virus.The Los Angeles Times reported the new strain quickly migrated from Europe to the East Coast of the United States, according to the study, led by a team from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.Video: States easing shutdown restrictions
