Having just been eliminated in the World Cup, the South Korean team was welcomed back home with a hailstorm of eggs launched by disgruntled fans.
Fans almost hit Tottenham striker Son Hyeung-Min with their eggs during a disbanding ceremony at Incheon airport Monday night, but the players escaped unscathed. They were also taunted with Union Jack cushions, which were hurled vaguely in their direction.
However, despite the barrage of eggs technically counting as an assault, if there was intent to harm the players, the Korean FA has declined to press charges.
"We first checked the KFA's intention whether it wants to punish the offenders before we launch our investigation," a spokesman from Incheon International Airport police said. "Throwing eggs is considered an assault, but it's also an offense which can't be prosecuted without the victim's objection."
