Man shot at The Banks says he's lucky to be alive; Surveillance video shows aftermath
Andre Harris, 22, was shot while walking at the intersection of East Freedom Way and Marian Spencer Way in Cincinnati on Saturday night, and he considers himself lucky to be alive.
A chaotic scene unfolded at The Banks, one of Cincinnati's busiest areas, when Harris felt something was wrong.
"I walked past the guy. He turns around, looks at me," Harris said. "I don't know who's the intuition thing, he was reaching for something, and so knowing that he had a mask on, first thing that I thought: 'It was a gun.'"
Harris, who has a concealed carry permit, pulled out his gun just as he heard gunshots.
"From what I know, too, but from everyone else, it was probably four. But, he let off four shots," Harris said.
Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows Harris, in a white shirt, running towards nearby police officers.
"There's two choices, in that, you just-- you just have to distinctively, you know, find cover or find someone that can protect you. So if it was me running towards the police, and that's what I had to do," Harris said.
The footage shows Harris being apprehended by police, at which point he realized he had been shot.
"I got shot in the foot," Harris said. "Doctors, they were able to pull up a couple of fragments. The main piece is still lodged in my foot."
Police are still searching for the shooter.
Despite the ordeal, Harris remains unafraid and grateful.
"I'm lucky that I'm 100% alive, that it is anything. So that's all I think about. You know, whoever this guy is or whatever situation or anything. Like I said, it could have been mistaken identity," Harris said.
Police have not released any suspect information at this time.
