The Sensory Santa Workshop is a collaboration between the Harford County Office of Disability Services and Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation to make sure children and adults with differing abilities can participate in a holiday tradition."We always like to focus on our families, and we have a strong urgency to make sure that all families of varying abilities have opportunities," said Amy McClaskey, a project manager for the Harford County Department of Housing and Community Services. "During the holidays, everybody kind of thinks Santa, so we decided to start the Santa experience."The first Sensory Santa Workshop was held over the weekend at the Churchville Recreation Center, hosting about 80 families. The experience includes a quiet space where children and their families can take photos with Santa and grab a gift bag. Then, families move to another room to create holiday crafts with their own personal elf guiding the way. It's an environment where Tom Dennison's son, Gabe, thrives.
