This salon allegedly charges overweight people extra for pedicures

Customers are accusing a salon called Rose Nails in Memphis, Tennessee, of hiking its pedicure prices for overweight patrons.
Deshania Ferguson was getting her nails done at the salon when she spotted a sign that read, "Sorry, but if you are overweight, pedicures will be $45 due to service fees for pedicurists. Thank you!" A basic pedicure at the Rose Nails costs $25.50.
Of course, the sign's niceties don't soften its message. So Deshania posted a photo of the sign on Facebook as a PSA with the perfect caption: "So rude
."
Because it's not OK for any business to penalize customers for their weight, recently visited the Rose Nails to poke around for an explanation. There, a salon spokesperson named Son Nguyen repeatedly denied that the sign ever hung in his salon. However, he did admit that he had considered raising prices for overweight patrons since they can be more difficult to service, and because there have been several incidents where overweight customers have broken pedicure chairs, which cost between $2,000 and $2,500 to fix.
Understandably, people aren't happy with the explanation. "He says his $2,000 chairs get broken by fat people?" one reviewer wrote on the . "Maybe the chairs need to be better made?"
Another Yelp reviewer implied she'd never visit the salon because of this incident. "Couldn't pay me $45 to get a pedi here," she wrote. "I can't imagine what one's weight has to do with these services other than it being a way to 'fat shame' women."
For what it's worth, the salon charges more for men as well. According to Nguyen: Pedicures cost $5 more for men, on the grounds that they get pedicures less frequently and therefore, may require more work.
Although it makes sense to charge more for more work, it seems that the policies at Rose Nails may need some work, as well.
