Lawyers representing the Tufts graduate student will argue that Vermont has jurisdiction over the case and that Ozturk should be released while the legality of her detainment is decided.In March, surveillance video showed Ozturk being approached by six ICE agents before they detained her and sent her to a detention center in Louisiana.The ACLU said Ozturk was driven to Methuen, then Lebanon, New Hampshire and then St. Albans, Vermont, before she was flown to the Louisiana detention center, where she is currently being held.In a statement describing her detainment, Ozturk said she felt "sure they were going to kill me." The Department of Homeland Security said Ozturk was detained after an investigation found she had "engaged in activities in support of Hamas." The department did not provide any evidence in support of that. Ozturk is among several people with ties to American universities whose visas were revoked or who have been stopped from entering the U.S. after publicly expressing support for Palestinians.
