In what police are calling a tragic accident, a 6-month-old baby died from apparent asphyxiation in his crib while his brother slept next to him.According to the Houston Police Department, the mother had put her 2-year-old son to sleep in a separate bed in the room the boys shared in their home at the Jadestone Apartments along Cook Road in Alief.But when checking on the babies about a half-hour later, the mother saw that the 2-year-old had climbed into the infant's crib to lie next to him, said HPD spokesman John Cannon.Police told Fox 26 it is believed the sibling climbed into the crib to "cuddle" with the infant. The 6-month-old was not breathing.A 911 call went out about 7:20 p.m., and when police arrived the infant could not be revived, Cannon said. He was taken to the West Houston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.The baby's cause of death has yet to be officially determined, but police said that by all accounts it appears to be an accidental smothering.
