A photographer is helping people with disabilities be represented in media the way they want to be represented.
Erik Piisila has had many photo shoots before, but this one holds a special place for him and the subjects of his photos. He hopes that his pictures send a message of empowerment to those with disabilities, especially since they will be used by disability rights groups.
The people he photographs hope that the photos convey the message that people with disabilities want the same things as everyone else. They also hope that viewers of the photos focus on the personality of the person in the picture rather than their disability.
