Moeller junior quarterback Matt Ponatoski wins Ohio Mr. Football award
Archbishop Moeller High School quarterback Matt Ponatoski was named the winner of on Thursday.
Ponatoski, a junior, was named the GCL Offensive Player of the Year this season, while setting Moeller career records for passing yards and passing touchdowns for the Crusaders.
Ponatoski has led Moeller to the state championship game, which will be played on Friday against Powell Olentangy Liberty at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
Through 15 games this season, Ponatoski has completed 70.7 percent of his throws, with 56 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He has also rushed for a touchdown this season.
Earlier this season against St. Xavier High School, Ponatoski tied Moeller's single-game record for passing touchdowns, throwing six of them as the Crusaders beat the Bombers.
Ponatoski was one of eight finalists chosen by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association for Ohio's most prestigious individual football honor.
Ponatoski became the second consecutive Moeller player to win Ohio's Mr. Football award. Running back Jordan Marshall won the award in 2023.
