Many users have been flocking to these sites for information and flooding them with misinformation, commenting and resharing posts about the Israel Hamas war. So how can you tell what's blurring the lines between fact and fiction? Let's get the facts. Our first stop is with our partners at factcheck dot org. They're the ones who research posts like this one claiming President Joe Biden signed off on billions of dollars in additional military aid to Israel. That's false or this viral video that appears to show former President Donald Trump condemning Israel that didn't happen either. That clip is from *** 2019 campaign rally and it was taken out of context. He was quoting *** democratic member of Congress. So we asked our partners at factcheck dot org for *** list of tools and best practices that you can use to help identify mis and disinformation on your own. First. Take *** look at their website before hitting the reshare button. Their team of fact checkers spend *** better part of their day researching and gathering information behind social media posts, quotes and images that have gone viral that's how they can identify what's true, false and provide additional context when warranted. Second, you search engines like Google take that quote that you may have seen floating around on your timeline that supposedly came from *** public official and put it in your Google search. You will either find all or part of the quote in articles from credible news outlets and fact checking sites and factcheck dot org says bing or T I are good tools for researching the origin of photos you see on social media. Fact checkers say *** simple reverse image search can identify whether *** photo was tweaked, altered or if it appeared in any other context over the years helping you get the facts in Washington.
