Hundreds of people pay respects to Deputy Larry Henderson at public visitation
Hundreds of people paid their respects to Deputy Larry Henderson on Thursday. This visitation comes ahead of funeral services scheduled for Friday.
"Larry's a good man. Larry was a good policeman. He's a better person," retired captain at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Don Rabold, said.
Countless police departments and agencies showed up to honor a fallen hero at Spring Grove Funeral Home.
"This is outside the course of nature and how you're supposed to go and I hope and pray there is justice for him in the end," Rabold said.
Henderson worked with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office for 33 years. He spent time with the HCSO bomb unit, dive team, and SWAT team.
After retiring in December, Henderson continued working special detail. Last Friday, he was killed directing traffic for graduation ceremonies at the University of Cincinnati.
"He was a solid guy, and for him, after four months of retirement, having this happen is unconscionable. It really is," Rabold said.
Outside of law enforcement, Henderson was a friend to many, a father of five, a grandfather, and a foster parent. He did it all.
"Deputy Henderson was certainly a wonderful person, and you could tell from the feeling in the room," Cincinnati City Council member Meeka Owens said.
His loss is leaving a hole in the hearts of many, as they get ready to say their final goodbyes tomorrow.
"I think people want to show the respect and honor to a really outstanding man and it's incredibly sad for all of us. Our prayers should be going across this community right now," Owens said.
Another public visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, at the Cintas Center from 9-11 a.m. A public service from 11-12:30 will be held Friday at the Cintas Center after the visitation.
