After Hurricane Irma hit Florida and foiled many travelers' plans, a few passengers aboard two Norwegian Cruise Line ships had a pretty fancy way to evacuate. They were able to set sail on the aptly-named Norwegian Escape with access to free food, alcohol, and all the ship's perks.
On Thursday, the Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Sky docked in Miami early so passengers could make arrangements to return safely home. However, many of them found that hotels were either evacuated or overbooked, or they could not find gas to drive out of the state. So Norwegian stepped in and decided to help guests who were trapped in Florida by offering them a chance to sail on the ship completely free of charge.
About 4,000 displaced passengers boarded the Escape Thursday evening, and spent the next few days sailing west of Florida and out of Irma's path, reports.
