Broadway is heading to the big screen. Film adaptations of "," "" and "In the Heights" are all currently in production right now, following in the footsteps of successful projects such as "Chicago," "Hairspray" and "Les Misérables."
Now, a remake of "Guys and Dolls," the much-beloved show about gamblers, gangsters, nightclub singers and missionaries, is in the works, as well.
. Here's what we know so far:
TriStar Pictures owns the remake rights.
Variety said TriStar Pictures purchased not only the rights to the musical by Jo Swerling, Abe Burrows and Frank Loesser, but also the rights to the Damon Runyon short stories that originally inspired the show. Fans are keeping their fingers crossed that the film will include the show's iconic musical numbers which include "Adelaide's Lament," "Marry the Man Today" and "Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat."
Casting details have yet to be announced publicly.
Whoever is picked for the film has big shoes to fill.
Gamblers Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson were played by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando in the 1955 film, while Nathan's fiancée the nightclub singer Miss Adelaide, was played by Vivian Blaine. Jean Simmons, who played Sgt. Sarah Brown, a sister at the Save-a-Soul Mission, rounded out the lead foursome.
A timeline for the project is unclear.
