Golden Globes: A night of firsts as Oprah takes center stage
The 75th Golden Globe Awards showed several firsts and some big wins for women Sunday.
Sterling K. Brown became the first African-American actor to win in the best actor in a TV drama category for "This Is Us," and Aziz Ansari was the first Asian actor to win a Golden Globe for best actor in a TV comedy for "Master of None."
But it was Oprah Winfrey, the first black woman to be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, who brought the audience to their feet with her stirring speech.
by saying she hopes as the first black women to accept the honor, she hopes it has an impact on young girls watching Sunday's ceremony.
"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" won some of the top honors, including best actress with Frances McDormand as well as best motion picture screenplay and motion picture, drama.
"The Handmaid's Tale" also showed success, including winning TV series awards for best drama and actress with Elisabeth Moss.

The spotlight also didn't stray far from the sexual misconduct scandals that have roiled Hollywood ever since an avalanche of allegations toppled Harvey Weinstein.
Out of solidarity with the victims of sexual harassment and assault, many women have said they will be dressing in black, which inundated the red carpet pre-show event.
Host Seth Meyers continued that message, welcoming ladies and "remaining gentlemen" and later directly mentioning Weinstein.
Meanwhile, the group that bestows the Golden Globe Awards is giving $1 million apiece to two journalism groups — the International Consortium Of Investigative Journalists, which led the investigation that yielded the Panama Papers, and the Committee To Protect Journalists.
