Editorial: Why we should be proud of Flying Pig Marathon
A tradition returns to the streets of Cincinnati after a year off due to the pandemic.
Thousands of runners will participate in the 23rd annual Flying Pig Marathon this Sunday.
While the Flying Pig serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, the local impact of the race itself stretches far beyond the competition, which takes place on the streets of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
Each year, the economic and charitable benefit of the Flying Pig is what truly makes this a best-in-class event we should all be proud of.
Since the first starting gun fired in 1999, over $19 million has been raised and donated to hundreds of charity partners. This money helps continue to support those in our community that need it most.
There also is a multi-million dollar economic impact from the runners and their families that come from across the nation as well as from dozens of countries. While here, they shop, dine and experience what makes Cincinnati such a special place to all of us.
We invite you to join the fun this Sunday, cheer on the runners and support the Flying Pig.
