With egg prices soaring, the hunt is on as people find unique ways to stuff Easter baskets this year.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national average for a dozen eggs rose to $6.23.
Easter is days away, and people are scrambling to find a deal.
On Thursday, at West Chester's Walmart, Kathy Barnes bought last-minute holiday goodies for her family.
"I bought bunnies, candy, cookies, ice cream sandwiches," Barnes said.
All the pastel, chocolate fun that turns up at stores in the spring can add up to a large number.
This holiday, Walmart is offering an Easter meal basket.
"It can feed eight people for around $40," Walmart GM Coach Matt Goans said.
It includes a spiral-cut brown sugar double-glazed ham, a 5-lb. bag of potatoes, mac and cheese, asparagus, green beans, corn on the cob, a dozen rolls, crème cake, and an orange.
"We also have our pre-made baskets, which range from $10 to $25," Goans said.
Dying eggs is an age-old tradition for many families, but this year, it has come at a high price.
"The egg prices have been higher, that's true," Deana Bowling said.
Folks are cracking down and getting creative to make their budgets work. Some families are dying marshmallows instead of eggs.
"My youngest, Elwood, he loves marshmallows. So I think that's what I'm going to do," Barnes said. "I'll buy the pretzel sticks, then put them in the marshmallow, put dye in a little pan, and dip them down. It'll be perfect."
No matter the holiday, spending time with your loved ones is priceless.
"We just have a big Easter dinner with beautiful food. We enjoy our family time and Praise the Lord," Barnes said.
"God first, the whole day is not just about bunny rabbits," Bowling said.
