Does your kid want to be a social media star? There's a camp for that
A new kind of a summer camp is looking to turn your child into the next internet sensation.
SocialStar Creator Camp was created for kids looking to use their summer break to enhance their skills in the world of internet celebrity. However the cost of celebrity won't come cheap. Parents will have to fork over upwards of $2,300 for the 10 day camp.
On its , the camp touts possible recruits as "those who use (or want to begin using) their time developing and growing platform content on a professional level."
The camp's founder, Nichelle Rodriguez, told NBC's "" show the camp serves as a way for children to turn their social media presence into a real career.
"It is an opportunity for kids to learn good business practices," she said.
Besides helping to create the latest internet craze, campers also learn the importance of online safety and how to handle cyber bullying.
Even with all the training, the camp admits that not every child who passes through its doors will get the golden ticket to stardom.
"Not everybody who trains for gymnastics gets to go to the Olympics. Not all these kids are going to be be social media stars, and that's okay," said former YouTube personality Michael Buckley, who serves as coach at the camp. "I'm teaching them to dream big and have the time of their lives while creating content."
