Stephanie Porkorny has been crocheting since she was 16 years old, when her grandmother taught her. The now-mother of four says her kids have grown up watching her making "nearly everything" by hand, like jams, maple syrup and more, so Halloween costumes were a next logical step. Porkorny has been making her sons, Jake and Jack, Halloween costumes for the past few years and has been sharing her creations on her blog, Crochetverse. Her two older sons, Billy and Max also wore homemade costumes growing up, but, Porkorny says it wasn't until she had her two younger boys that she returned to crocheting."Let's face it, making things for kids is so fun!" she says."They have a real appreciation for things we make and therefore, at this point, highly prefer things we create. They always say, 'Oh don't worry ... mom can crochet that!'"Some favorite creations include Predator from the "Predator" movies:Slimer from "Ghostbusters":And, yes, he glows in the dark: Papa Smurf:A gnome:Harry Potter: E.T. the extraterrestrial: Pennywise, the clown from "IT":And recently, Jack requested a "Mickey Mouse Pizza," to which Pokorny says, "What that is, I do not know, but heck if I didn't work to make that happen!" Pakorny said she needs between 20 to 40 hours of actual work to create the costumes and usually allots herself two weeks for each. As for her children's apparent affinity for classics from the 1980s, she says, "It seems like in the last few years all the amazing '80s films have been redone in some manner ... so they see the ads for these new movies and are interested, and we say, 'Oh but wait ... this was done when mom and dad were kids!' ... So I guess you could say they like the classics but are influenced by the modern remakes."And it's not just children's Halloween costumes Pokorny showcases on Crochetverse. She also provides patterns for other crocheters to make their own creations:
