Council votes to rename Cincinnati parks after fallen first-responders
City council passes proposal unanimously

The Cincinnati City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to rename two city parks after three fallen first-responders.
East Park Commons in Hyde Park will be renamed police officer Sonny Kim Memorial Park and the Queensgate Recreation area will honor fallen firefighters Darryl Gordon and Oscar Armstrong III.
East Hyde Park Commons is down the street from District 2, where Kim spent most of his career. Kim was shot June 19 while responding to a call of a man with a gun in Madisonville. A confrontation with Trepierre Hummons, 21, left both men dead, Cincinnati police said. Kim served District 2 for 26 years.
The Queensgate Recreation area will honor two fallen firefighters. Gordon, a 30-year veteran, fell to his death in an elevator shaft at the King Towers Apartments. Armstrong died in the line of duty in 2003.
City leaders said the parks will be a permanent reminder of their lives.

City leaders hope to dedicate the parks before temperatures drop. They said there will be bronze plaques to commemorate each of the first-responders.
