'Clueless' remake on the way from producer of 'Girls Trip'

Ugh, as if!

Ugh, as IF!The 1995 teen movie, "Cluelessn" is the latest classic getting the remake treatment, according to reports, because nothing is sacred anymore.According to Deadline, Tracy Oliver of "Girls Trip" is producing and "Glow" writer Marquita Robinson is working on the script. The project is still in its very early stages. The original movie, which is based loosely on Jane Austen's novel "Emma," starred Alicia Silverstone as the outrageously superficial yet lovable Cher Horowitz, who tries to find love amidst trying to make over a new pupil, played by the late Brittany Murphy. It also starred Paul Rudd, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto and Stacey Dash, and is generally regarded as one of the great teen cult classics.Alongside a potential movie remake, "Clueless" will also get the musical treatment starring Dove Cameron as Cher. It will make its off-Broadway debut in November. Meanwhile, Silverstone revealed last year that the original "Clueless" was nearly never made. She recalled, "One studio said no to it because they didn't think anyone was interested in watching a movie about a young girl. "Those people now do kick themselves that they were not part of that film. They were like, 'We don't think anybody is going to care. It's not going to sell tickets.'"However, it all came together in the end, the actress adding, "I was young and I thought it was really overwhelming and it was really intense. "I did a bunch of movies, and then nine movies later, I did 'Clueless.' When it's like, 'That's Alicia Silverstone!' everywhere I went, it was a lot for a little person. But then life goes on and you figure it out."
