New data released on Friday

A new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds two doses of the Pfizer vaccine was 91% effective in preventing MIS-C in kids 12 to 18.Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is the rare but serious inflammatory condition that can attack the organs after a bout with COVID-19. Dr. Melissa St. Germain, the vice president and medical director of Children's Physicians called the CDC's report on vaccination and MIS-C encouraging."I'm very excited that they're finally able to collect some of this data," she said. "These are results that we expected to find. We know that (the) COVID-19 vaccine is very effective at preventing COVID illness." St. Germain said even if your child's COVID-19 symptoms are mild, three to four weeks later, their body could respond to the infection with MIS-C. It's a condition where organs like the lungs, heart, kidneys, even the brain can become inflamed, leading to severe illness. But being vaccinated, appears to be a game-changer. The CDC's report found that the children with MIS-C who did end up on life support were all unvaccinated.St. Germain said it's one more reason to get your child vaccinated or boosted if they're five months out from their initial shots.
