Mom thanks her ex's new girlfriend for being an awesome co-parent

"You're a true role model and an amazing bonus mom and we are so proud of you!"

Brittney Johnson, a 27-year-old single mom from Missouri, is being hailed by the internet as the best possible example of someone who co-parents. In a Facebook post, she explained her ex-husband's partner Kayla Imhoff has been an instrumental part of her daughter Payton's life since she came into the picture. The post has close to 50,000 shares since it was published on July 12.In part, Johnson wrote:Let me tell you, I'm raising a strong girl, a smart girl and a sweet girl. And I want nothing more than for her to be surrounded with role models who are exactly that. Thank you Kayla for showing Payton how to chase her dreams, how to work hard and stay up late to study for a test. Thank you for still making time to ride her bike with her and make her mac and cheese even in one of the stressful times of your life. You're a true role model and an amazing bonus mom and we are so proud of you! If you're co-parenting, and seeing your child doing things like this doesn't bring a smile to your face, reconsider what's truly best for your child. Payton has more people to love her this way, and what more could a mother ever want for her child? Being best friends with me AND being best friends with Kayla, is exactly where P deserves to be."It sounds weird but I feel like the minute I knew Payton and I had a special bond was immediately," Kayla Imhoff, 22, explained via email. "Brittney and I have had a good relationship the whole time. I wouldn't ever consider it a 'bad' one but we got super close this last December." Johnson agreed: "The first time I saw Payton running full force toward Kayla with her arms open, I knew their relationship was rare," she wrote in an email. "If Payton is happy, I'm happy, and I knew that she had found a new friend in Kayla."Imhoff did not expect Johnson's post to blow up as big as it did, but Imhoff has been surprised by the support she's received in response: "You still see the negative comments, but the ones where me that I have inspired them to put the kiddos first are my favorite ones!" Johnson, again, agreed: "I've gotten messages from mommas or bonus moms who's blended family members have sent them this post and it makes my heart happy," she wrote. "Knowing that something we consider to be normal has had such a positive impact around the world makes me more proud of our big family than I knew was possible."
