Meet Bob, the deaf Dachshund who is learning sign language

This cute sausage dog needs a new home

Meet Bob, an adorable Dachshund who was born completely deaf. The 10-month-old puppy has been learning sign language as animal rescuers in London attempt to get him rehomed. Bob's previous owners gave him up as they thought he'd be too difficult to manage due to being deaf and displaying problems with gait and balance. They had originally brought Bob and his brother over from Hungary before giving Bob up for adoption. Workers at The Mayhew Animal Home in London's Kensal Green have been teaching sign language to Bob so he can understand commands and communicate with potential owners. He's also been toilet trained, and taught how to walk on a leash. Lisa Guiney, the charity's Dog Adoption Officer, told Brent and Kilburn Times: "Bob is a lovely comical little boy, who is so confident and doesn't let his deafness or balance problems get in the way. "He has quickly picked up lots of commands like sit, stay, down, come and few tricks too by body language, hand signals and reading faces. He compensates for his lack of hearing with his huge personality. "Rehoming a deaf dog like Bob can be an incredibly rewarding experience; we are hoping to find someone who understands his needs and can give him the attention and care that he requires. "We are on a mission to find Bob a loving new home and the happily ever after that he is so deserves." And we're sure it won't be long before Bob finds a new home.
