Apparently the only thing you need to get a perfectly ripe avocado is one tiny wool sock just big enough to fit your fruit inside. This is a real thing that exists and it's called the Avocado Sock.
It was created by Diane Sherwood — who formerly owned a catering company in Vancouver, Canada — after she would ripen avocados by placing them in wool ski socks in order to have ripe avocados to make guacamole. Sherwood decided to go one step further and create custom all-wool Avocado Socks.
On the Avocado Sock website, Sherwood , "Sometimes, the oldest tricks work the best, and the effectiveness of the Avocado Sock is no exception."
The company credits natural lanolin and warmth of the wool for expediting the ripening process, saying it "ripens avocados evenly and gently and faster than a paper bag."
