A Canadian woman returned a box of cotton swabs that ended up being worth $1,800 on top of the 50 cents she shelled out for it.
To be fair, the jewelry collection she surprisingly discovered in the package is useless when it comes to cleaning ears.
"They say you can't find good finds at a thrift shop, and I say, 'Hey, I sure did,'" Loretta Simms told the .
She picked up the box of Q-tips at the Cowichan Hospital Auxilary Thrift Store last Wednesday in Duncan, B.C. Inside, she found a small box with eight rings set with diamonds, emerald, rubies a string of pearls -- one of the pieces was a diamond engagement ring.
A store worker told the CBC she took for granted that the box was filled with Q-tips when she placed it on the shelf, but the collection was from a man who donated the pieces that hadbelonged to his late sister.
The workers said it was "astounding" for Simms to bring the items back. They're now on sale, with the proceeds going to the hospital.
"I just felt it wasn't for me," Simms said. "Meant for me to find and bring back, but not for me."
